DEVELOPMENT PLANS
This section provides my personal development plans within a one and five year period using the 'SMART' goals tool.
It explores the skills I wish to acquire as a Registered Nurse, responsibilities I wish to take on and future career plans. My overall development plan as an RN is to build upon my clinical skills, experience and education.
DEVELOPMENT PLAN: ONE YEAR
Objective
My first year goal is to successfully gain a New Graduate Registered Nurse position at John Hunter Hospital (JHH)
RATIONALE
(Measurable)
My first preference for employment is John Hunter Hospital in their New Graduate registered Nurse's rotations. Hone researching the rotations they have on offer, I was immediately interested as well as the education programs they offer.
I will know if I am successful if receive an email at the of October, congratulating me and further providing details for my further employment as a registered nurse.
STRATEGY
(Achieveable)
My strategy to make this goal achievable was to work hard over the past three years of my nursing degree. I further provided a successful job application and gained an interview with Hunter New England Health. I believe my interview was successful, hopefully giving myself a high chance of gaining a full time position in 2021.

This goal is an important aspect as it further assists and accompanies my five year goal. When I achieve this goal it will further assist me in the right direction to meet my needs and career aspirations.
DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Timely
I will complete this goal when I am successful in gaining the full time position at the end of October. This goal will be completely achieved when I start my employment in February 2021.
DEVELOPMENT PLAN: 5 YEARS
Objective
Expand my knowledge and develop confidence in paediatrics nursing. Whilst maintaining a quality work life balance.
RATIONALE
(Measurable)
I believe my compassionate and approachable nature is suited to a role as a paediatric nurse. I would provide expert patient centred care to the child through evidence-based practice, whist communicating professionally with the patient’s family and multidisciplinary teams.

(Achievable)
By obtaining further study and training such as a graduate certificate into the fields of paediatrics will asset me in achieving this goal. I will achieve this goal by working hard, following the correct standards and procedures and taking all opportunities that come across within my experience.
EVIDENCE

Complete a post graduate degree and get placed in a paediatric ward. My confidence in this field will increase through research, gained knowledge, and experience.

​This goal is important as I strive to grow within myself and my nursing career. When I reach this goal, I will be able to reach further goals in the future, leading to long term plans and ambitions.

I will complete this goal when I successfully gain a position within a speciality paediatrics area. This goal will further benefit future plans and experiences within my career.
